How’s that hope and change working out for you? Perhaps the reason we haven’t seen any real change (at least the kind most Americans support and agree with) is because #44 can’t seem to focus on anything long enough to give it the kind of attention any serious matter might deserve. In fact, the greater the initial importance given the crisis du jour, the more I’m inclined to think this administration is saying “Ooh, look! Shiny thing!” in an attempt to keep us all off guard so we don’t notice the horror show going on over on Capitol Hill.

The housing market collapse

Financial markets melt down

Stimulus Bill

Bailouts – AIG, GM, Chrysler, Banks, Freddie, Fannie, etc.

Swine Flu

Healthcare “reform”

The Beer Summit

Cap and Trade (Global Warming)

Military Leadership

Border Security

The list goes on and on. It is a never-ending parade of “look at me” moments that prevent anyone from looking too closely at what is really going on in Washington. Now before we move on to the next crisis (why is it always a crisis anyway?), let’s stop to take a look at our current disaster before it is forgotten like the Nobel Peace Prize.

Can our country afford to leave this administration in place one minute longer? As I write this, it is 98 days until the midterm elections. It will take at least 2-3 election cycles to get rid of all of them (I don’t care about the letter after the name), so let’s start this November! If you need help in selecting a candidate, please read my previous post.

In this election year, there is no end to the myriad of issues confronting the electorate, but one that has gained a lot of attention recently is the issue of immigration. It is striking how so many have such strong opinions based on so little information. This might be forgiven in the average citizen, but when it is obvious that even the President can’t even be bothered to inform himself of the issues by reading the relevant laws, that is truly disturbing, and sets the stage for rhetoric heavy on emotion, but light on facts.

It would be troubling if this were the only area where our politicians got it wrong, but the fact is, you could look back over the last couple of decades and find that the vast majority of the time, the ‘professional politicians’ get it wrong on just about every issue when the average citizen knows the right answers just by using their own God-given common sense.

The situation in Arizona is particularly troubling because it is one that could have been prevented if the Federal government simply did the job they are bound by law to do. The fact is, it was not politically expedient for either party to try to fix the problem. This might alienate some in the latino community when both sides are desperately pandering for each and every vote they can get. As a result, the situation has been avoided by both sides, but Arizona’s democratic congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick recently (and correctly) pointed out that national security begins with border security.

It is unfortunate that in the midst of this heated debate, it has been lost on everyone involved that we are all immigrants. Unless you can show that you are descended from a Native American tribe, every family came from an immigrant at some point.

The richness and greatness of our country was built on the backs of wave after wave of immigrants coming from the four corner of the earth. There have been significant influxes of people over the past 400 years, first from England, but soon others followed. You can still see large communities based on these waves of newcomers from Ireland (Massachusetts), Germany (Pennsylvania), Cuba (Florida), and many other examples all over the country.

I do not speak as one who has no connection to these immigrants. Years ago I had the pleasure of attending a 4th of July naturalization ceremony at the Seattle Center, where I saw my sister-in-law take the United States Oath of Allegiance, thus becoming a newly-minted citizen. My mother-in-law comes from Manchester England, and her mother came from Ireland. My own maternal grandmother was born in Haarlem (no, not that one, the one in the Netherlands).

I am not now, nor have I ever been against anyone’s right to immigrate to this country legally, but there is a very great danger in what is happening here. When you hear talk of ‘immigration reform’ or ‘amnesty’ for illegal immigrants, you need to understand that it has nothing to do with making a way to citizenship, and everything to do with unlawfully running the most massive democratic voter drive ever seen. The Federal government’s recent lawsuit against the State of Arizona has nothing to do with ensuring justice and compliance with the Constitution; it is setting the stage for a massive fraud against the American people.

Even if this were not a corrupt abuse of the system, I would still be against this not only as a matter of principle, but for the fact that this will cheapen the value of every legal citizen in this country. There is a reason that counterfeit money is illegal. What would happen to the value of the dollar if suddenly people were able to print a seemingly endless supply for themselves? This is exactly what the administration wants to do, and it is only to get voters to keep them in power.

Let me tell you the story of an immigrant born just outside of Hamburg, Germany during the late 19th century.

William John Henry Boetcker was born on July 17, 1873, the third born to a family with three sisters. When he was 8, his father, a foreman in a factory was disabled for life when he was severely beaten by striking workers (don’t even get me started on the unions right now).

As a teenager, Boetcker became an author, working on a collection of puzzles and mind problems. A newspaper described him as Germany’s youngest author, drawing the interest of an American-born woman, who believed he would have to go to America to make something of himself. After he finished high school she gave him enough for fare on a steam ship bound for New York.

A survivor of a stormy crossing aboard the Augusta Victoria (the ship was presumed lost at sea, but arrived 30 days late), the 18-year old made his way inland to attend the Chicago Theological Seminary. He spoke no English, and the professors spoke no German, so they conversed in Latin.

When the Columbian Exposition (the World’s Fair) came to Chicago in 1893, the Pope sent a Cardinal to represent the church. When one of the Cardinal’s bodyguards became ill, an ad was placed to fill the need for a military man who knew how to play the coronet. Boetcker had been a Reserve Lieutenant in the German Army, and he knew how to play, so he answered the ad despite being less than the required height. Nobody else responded, so he got the job.

The first Ferris wheel ever built was at the fair. Boetcker was fond of telling how he got stuck at the top of the wheel, and played “Nearer My God to Thee” on his cornet, giving an indication of his sense of humor.

You may wonder why I would tell his story at a time like this.

After completing his studies at the Bloomfield Seminary in New Jersey, he was ordained in Brooklyn and went on to become a well-known religious leader and (now in english) influential public speaker. An outspoken political conservative, Rev. Boetcker is perhaps best remembered for his authorship of a pamphlet entitled The Ten Cannots, originally published in 1916.

When you go to the polls in just a few short months, I would urge you to look at this list and use it as a guide in deciding whether to vote for a candidate or not. If the person you are considering exhibits any of these patterns in the way they would run their office, you really need to look for a better candidate.

The Ten Cannots

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.

You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.

You cannot build character and courage by destroying men’s initiative and independence.

And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.

Unfortunately, we have been governed for many years by administrations who, regardless of party, uniformly exhibit each and every one of these characteristics. The very freedoms we enjoy are in jeopardy if we as American citizens fail to live up to our civic duty to properly inform ourselves on who these charlatans are, and what they represent. We ourselves will become guilty of Boetcker’s …

Seven National Crimes

I don’t think.

I don’t know.

I don’t care.

I am too busy.

I leave well enough alone.

I have no time to read and find out.

I am not interested.

I have explained before that our so-called ‘revolutionary war’ was nothing of the sort. British subjects living in the new world waged a war for independence from their homeland as a result of their loss of rights as Englishmen, and unfair treatment by the crown.

On July 4, 1776, a declaration was approved by representatives of the 13 British Colonies gathered together in congress. It was not revolutionary in that it declared independence from its homeland, but it went on to declare not only a new order in man’s relationship one to another, but it also defined a new relationship between man and God.

Prior to this amazing document, men were ruled by their king, who was in turn subject only to God. The colonialists recognized that the blessings that they realized were a gift from God and not the king, and they now declared it to be so before the entire world. There was no longer a layer of “middle management”; all were declared equal before God. It is because of this reliance on God that the so-called American Revolution gave way to the most prosperous and freedom-loving nation ever founded on this earth, and did not turn out like the so-called “enlightened” revolution in France, which ended in a bloodbath.

Unfortunately, freedom isn’t free. To maintain it, the people of this nation need to remain vigilant to guard against those who would seek power for themselves instead of exercising civic virtue to protect their fellow countrymen.

For the first 150 years of this nation’s history, there was a steady progression towards greater freedom and opportunity as men and women from all walks of life experienced the blessings of living in a land that recognized its dependance on God. Since early in the 20th century however, there has been a steady attack on America as the progressive movement embraced many of the principles of socialism and communism, seeking to re-shape America as they saw fit. The progressives have completely taken over the Democratic Party, and are well on their way to controlling the Republicans as well.

Does anyone even remember President Kennedy saying “Ask not what your country can do for you”? In today’s America, it’s what can’t the country do for you (or to you).

One of the fundamental requirements for Socialism and Communism to succeed is to eliminate dependance on God, and to re-write our histories so we don’t remember the past. This is the reason for the continued attack on God, and why our children are no longer taught anything but fluff and nonsense when it comes to American History. God was unceremoniously thrown out of our schools in 1962, and a generation later, we have fallen as a nation as a direct result.

How many people understand that our founding fathers were not a bunch of racist white men (as many would have you believe)? The committee in charge of the Declaration (John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson) changed the wording of John Locke’s “life, liberty and property” to ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ in order to prevent slavery from being permanently entrenched in American civilization (slave being considered as property at the time). This was also the reason slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person in the constitution; not to minimize them, but to keep slaveholders from being overrepresented in government.

How many people even know the motto of the revolutionary war? America has always been a land of slogans and sayings (‘Don’t Tread On Me’, Join or Die’, etc.), but the motto of the revolution was:

No king but King Jesus!

This motto clearly brought to mind the scripture recorded in John 19:15, when the people and chief priests demanded Pilate crucify Jesus. Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”

This year enjoy the 4th with your families, but remember what was declared 234 years ago: our “firm reliance on Divine Providence” (God). Then in November. remember that your freedom and liberty were paid for with a high price.

Our current government continues to enslave us further with every step. We can no longer pay the debt that our “representatives” have chained us to – (over 109 trillion and climbing fast). The number is so staggering, and so great that it will fall to our children, grandchildren, and even beyond our great-grandchildren to repay it.

Any politician who does not intend to cut spending, repeal taxes, and reduce bureaucracy intends on enslaving you and you descendants for generations. If we do not stop them now, America may never again be the free nation that God intended it to be.

If you are a runner, or live in the Boston area, you might know it as Marathon Monday, as the Boston Marathon happens on this day every year.

One of the most galvanizing events in American history happened on this day in 1775, when the British fired on Lexington and Concord (the “shot heard ’round the world” as Ralph Waldo Emerson put it). I don’t understand how a day this important to the very founding of our nation goes unnoticed to the point most people don’t even know about it. It has been all but completely obscured by more recent events.

If you have watched or heard the news at all today, you probably heard something about the 15th anniversary of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing instead. What I found interesting about this was the complete absence of any mention of the direct cause: a Government that went to war against civilians in Waco, Texas in 1993, and at Ruby Ridge, Idaho the year before. The Waco Siege ended in a fire that killed 76 people, including 24 British nationals, 20 children and 2 pregnant women.

While it is certain Timothy McVeigh was a troubled soul who clearly took misguided steps to respond to what he saw as an out-of-control government, it is also now clear that the judgement of our leaders must be called to question just as much today as then.

Instead of finding a peaceful (and constitutional) way to resolve the problems in Waco, President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Janet Reno authorized a veritable army to descend on the compound at Mt. Carmel, including 9 Bradley Fighting Machines, and five M-60 Combat Engineering Vehicles (CEVs), obtained from the Army. While these are not used to deliver ordnance, they would clearly appear as tanks to a civilian.

These would not be the only questionable judgement calls for either, but it would certainly prove to be among the most deadly.

AG Reno’s lapses of judgement included mis-handling the child custody matter of Elián González by sending in a fully armed SWAT team to pick up a 6-year old, deploying tear gas and mace at any who came near outside (oops). She also directly violated the Constitution by leaking to the media that Richard Jewell was the bomber of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, assuming him to be guilty (even then, as today, the media was happy to be an accomplice to the liberal administration). Oops.

There’s simply too long a list for Bill Clinton.

Unfortunately, action do have consequences, and the direct result of their ham-fisted approach and complete incompetence in handling the matter, was the bombing in Oklahoma City, exactly two years later to the day. Six years later, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold of Columbine, Colorado were inspired to “outdo” the bombing by slaughtering as many as they could at their High School. Fringe militia groups have sprouted like weeds, including the recently apprehended Hutaree group in Michigan.

The administration of Bill Clinton continues to wreak havoc on the lives of americans. His inability to deal with the first bombing at the World Trade Center, the attack on the USS Cole, as well as the U.S. embassy bombings in 1998, all served to embolden Osama bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda network of terrorists to attack us on our own soil on September 11, 2001. His changes to the Community Reinvestment Act in 1995 directly led to the mortgage crisis that is still crippling the country. His long train of infidelity and scandals have disgraced the presidency itself.

Even his Vice President Al Gore has joined in the effort to raise the misery index for all americans by trying to convince anyone that will listen that Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW or just Global Warming for short) is real science. Even if I believed this nonsense, it comes at such a staggering price tag, and has been so discredited that it is hard to believe that it is still being discussed.

Recently, ol’ Bubba has sought to shine up his tarnished reputation by playing goodwill ambassador to Haiti for earthquake relief. Now he shows us his contemptible view of average americans by trying to compare Tea Party patriots to the very domestic terrorist his administration created!

If recent history has taught us anything, it is that the left simply cannot be trusted with holding the reigns of government. I could probably write off the Clinton/Gore administration as just being incompetent, but now we have an administration that wants to run every aspect of your life, and make us all tax slaves to pay for the pleasure!

Barack Obama’s campaign promises of ‘Hope and Change’ have given way to ‘Hoax and Chains’. In the last 6 months, the worst of Chicago politics have been put on display for all to see, but now with the backing of the Federal Government and the U.S. Treasury! If a bill does not stand on its own merits, arms are twisted, bribes are made, votes are bought, and the american people are left to pick up the tab.

As citizens of this great nation, we have one sure way to deal with these criminals, and it isn’t by joining a militia. I have maintained for many years that the only way to get rid of the corruption in Washington is to vote all of them out, lock stock and barrel, regardless of the letter after their name.

November 2nd cannot come quickly enough.

A couple of weeks ago, President Obama appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s “Christmas at the White House” TV special. During an interview with “Big O”, “little o” graded himself “a good solid B+“. Since we are coming to the end of the first year of the Obama administration, it is an appropriate time to reflect on the last year and grade his job performance. Since the President seems to use the same measure of accomplishment for himself as the Nobel Prize Committee, I will try to grade him based on actual accomplishments.

Rather than get down into the minute details that really don’t interest those who don’t follow politics closely, I will just give a high-level look at the areas that most Americans would use to grade job performance.

The Economy

During Bill Clinton’s successful 1992 presidential campaign, Clinton campaign strategist James Carville hung a now-infamous sign in campaign headquarters that was intended to keep the campaign on-message. The most famous line said (it’s) “The economy, stupid”. Despite a 90% approval rating the year before, President Bush lost the election largely for his inability to recognize the things that are important to the American People, and one of the foremost of these is the economy.

During the interview with Oprah, the president once again trotted out his tired excuse of having inherited “the biggest set of challenges since Franklin Delano Roosevelt”. This wasn’t true the first time he said it, and it certainly hasn’t gained any measure of truth through repetition. For instance, we do not face double-digit inflation, gas rationing or outright recession that was occurring during the 1980 campaign. In a dire message, our new President warned that if the stimulus package was not passed by Congress, unemployment would pass 8% and could rise as high as 11% if no action is taken. Well it was passed, and unemployment still raced into double-digits nationally, and is reported to be as high as 50% in cities like Detroit, where he illegally took control of our automobile industry. At least most of the stimulus money is still being held in reserve until 2012 so that more votes can be paid for. Gotta love that Chicago-style way of doing things. Why pay for votes yourself when you can use the public’s money?

Appointments

The job of making appointments to cabinet posts and other departments within the administration is one that should be done carefully to make sure that the rest of the administration reflects the values and character of the country’s Chief Executive. In this respect, I think the President has outdone himself.

Van Jones (Green Jobs Czar) – Self-avowed communist, forced to resign after being exposed by commentator Glenn Beck.

Sonia Sotomayor (Supreme Court Justice) – confirmed despite repeated racist and sexist remarks, and a history of having her rulings overturned by the Supreme Court, including a now notorious case from New Haven, Connecticut involving discrimination against a group of white fire fighters.

Former lobbyists William Lynn, William Corr, Mark Patterson, Jocelyn Frye, Cecilia Munoz, Richard Verma, Charles Bolden, Naomi Walker, Islam Siddiqui and perhaps even Leon Panetta, all nominated to various posts. This after Obama loudly proclaimed that lobbyists would have no place in his administration and there would be no “revolving door”.

The parade of tax cheats – Treasury Secretary and IRS Head Tim Geithner. Others nominees who had some major problems with taxes they owed included Tom Daschle, Nancy Killefer, the Hilda Solis family, Kathleen Sebelius, Ron Kirk, Caroline Atkinson, Rahm Emanuel, Capricia Marshall, Pete Rouse and Lael Brainard.

Carol Browner (Climate/Global Warming Czar) – outed by the Washington Examiner and Washington Times as a socialist, but hey, the Obama Administration says this is “not a problem”.

Dawn Johnsen (Obama’s nominee to head the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel) – once compared pregnancy with slavery. This and other nutty views have her nomination in limbo in the Senate. If confirmed, this law professor from Indiana University would be in charge of the office that formulates the attorney general’s formal opinions and provides counsel on tricky legal questions like the handling of Guantanamo Bay detainees and their impending move to the Thomson Correctional Center in Thomson, Illinois.

Harold Koh (nominated to be the State Department’s top legal advisor) – believes, “JUDGES should interpret the Constitution according to other nations’ legal “norms.” He also believes Sharia law could apply to disputes in US courts!

Dr. John P. Holdren (White House Science Advisor) – as a secondary level appointment, he was not subject to Senate confirmation, yet still has the ear of the President the same way. In 1971, he predicted that “some form of eco-catastrophe, if not thermonuclear war, seems almost certain to overtake us before the end of the century.” He is also a proponent of population control. Among his proposals: spiking drinking water with sterilants and implanting sterilization capsules in our youth.

Kevin Jennings (Director of the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools) – founder and former Executive Director of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network. The group sponsored a conference called “Teach Out 2000″ at which Department of Education officials provided graphic answers to children on how to perform sexual acts, including homosexual acts.

Cass Sunstein (Regulation Czar) – wants to establish legal ‘rights’ for livestock, wildlife and pets, which would enable animals to file lawsuits in American courts.

There are more. Really. The list goes on and on. In fact, many appointments have yet to be filled, including a head for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) which would be in charge of investigating the so-called ‘underwear bomber’ on Northwest Flight 253. Perhaps he will give some more thought to staffing his administration during his next round of golf.

Homeland Security

Since I already mentioned the attempted airline bombing on Christmas Day, how about our new Director of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano? Isn’t she something? After her assertion that crossing the border illegally “isn’t a crime per se”, an internal report comparing the Tea Party movement to terrorists, and her claim that 9/11 terrorists came in through the Canadian border, she promptly claimed that “the system worked” when the bombing of flight 253 was unsuccessful. The only problem is that this wasn’t even close to being true, causing her to do an about-face the next day. At least her disagreements with reality don’t seem to cause her too much distress.

The mid-air attack did not seem to cause the President any distress either, as he took a leisurely 3 days before even commenting on it publicly. Apparently a family vacation in Hawaii is a bit more important than the security of our nation. This wasn’t the first time our President was noticeably tardy in responding to issues of this magnitude.

In November, after an attack that left 13 dead and 42 wounded at Fort Hood in Texas, the President spoke at a press conference at which everyone assumed the top issue to be addressed would be the tragedy of the shooting. Instead, he spoke for over 2 and a half minutes about a conference he had attended at the Department of the Interior, including giving “shout outs” and cracking jokes before finally getting around to facing the reality of the day. Personally I think this might be the lowest point of his young presidency so far.

The other issue of security that must be addressed is the insane idea of moving detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where they are held as war criminals, and move them to New York City to stand trial, complete with all the rights of American citizens. The only people this can possibly make any sense to are those who are so blinded by their hate of George W. Bush that they want to vicariously put him on trial by way of the Gitmo detainees. Attorney General Eric Holder had no jurisdiction over these prisoners, as they are held by the military. The only way this could happen is if the way was cleared by the President. His attempt to hide behind the AG office, asserting that he is doing this on his own is simply a crock. This is just part of his pattern of making a decision and attempting to hide behind someone else and claim “they did it!”

Domestic Policy

After a year that included attempting to distract the American people with scares of Swine Flu and Global Warming, the single domestic issue that has overshadowed all others this year has been that of so-called health care reform. While Obama the candidate made many promises on reform, Obama the President has made it clear that this is no less than a complete take-over of one-sixth of the U.S. economy.

Promises made during the campaign included paying for the new health care plan by tort (lawsuit) reform, and eliminating waste in Medicare and Medicaid programs. If there is fraud, why do we have to wait to eliminate it? If this is needed so badly to prevent Americans from dying in the streets (as has been claimed by many in Congress), why do we have to wait until 2013 for it to kick in? Is no one able to see that this designed so that we won’t see just how terrible this is until the Chosen One has been re-elected? Are people really going to accept the idea of paying for health care for years before they actually get it? Would you pay for a car for 3 years before you could even take it for a test drive?

He was openly accused of lying during an address to Congress when he stated that illegal immigrants would not be covered. It soon became evident that he intended to declare an amnesty for illegals, so that there would be no illegals to cover; they would all now be legal. So much for the immigration process.

No one in Congress will even address the fantasy that they are putting forth that would somehow enable them to add tens of millions of new insured to the current medical system and do it at a lower cost. There is also no discussion of what it will take to staff hospitals and medical clinics to support all these new patients while at the same time taking away every incentive for people to join the profession. It would take many years to build up to this level of support, but I’m guessing somewhere in the middle of one of the bills there must be one of those cloud diagrams with the words “a miracle happens here” in the middle. I’ve got a copy of the bill around here somewhere. I’m going to go look for it.

Neither is anyone even considering that by implementing this bill, Congress is in fact creating their own bailout. Having repeatedly proven that they are incapable of handling neither insurance plans (having bankrupted Social Security by using it as their own checking account), nor health care systems (Medicare or Medicaid), they will now try to cover over their gross incompetence by doing it again on a colossal scale.

He said that abortion wouldn’t be covered by this bill, yet it is clear that this will be a major problem during the reconciliation process, as the House version of the bill excludes it, but it is covered in the Senate version.

A single-payer plan is also in the works, which would effectively drive all other insurers out of business. This is yet another assault on the American free-market system (following Obama’s ill-conceived interference in the housing, banking and automobile sectors).

The most insufferable aspect of this madness is that no one in Congress has ever stopped to consider whether they had the Constitutional authority to proceed as they have. They do not.

They do not have the authority to force the American people to pay for a product (insurance) whether they want to or not.

They do not have the authority to fine (tax) people for failure to buy their product.

They do not have the authority to send the IRS after people to enforce their policy.

They do not have the authority to imprison people who refuse to pay up.

Yet all this and more is included in this monstrous piece of legislation working its way to the President’s desk.

Foreign Policy

In a most acutely counter-intuitive move, our new Commander-in-Chief (with no previous military experience) has decided to not only announce his intentions to our enemies regarding troop levels (after having mulled it over for more months than it took to decide on a family pet), he also chose to tell them when we would be leaving as well. At least the terrorists now have a timetable to work with. We wouldn’t want to inconvenience them or anything. Perhaps he felt he needed to give them fair warning, since he is after all, the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. This may also be why he chose to announce that we would be abandoning our allies in eastern Europe as well by scrapping plans for a missile defense shield.

On the diplomatic front, it has been a veritable parade of embarrassments.

After the 9/11 attacks, a bust of Sir Winston Churchill was sent from England in a show of support for the U.S., loaned to George W. Bush to display in the Oval Office during the rest of his term. Despite communications from England assuring Obama that they wished him to keep it, within a couple of weeks of his inauguration, he returned it, saying “Thanks, but no thanks.”

In February, Vice-President Joe Biden spoke of pressing the “reset button” on relations between Moscow and Washington during a speech in Germany. In March, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave a gift to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at their meeting in Geneva to underscore the Obama administration’s readiness to “to press the reset button” in talks with Moscow. But instead of the Russian word for “reset” (perezagruzka) it featured a slightly different word meaning “overload” or “overcharged” (peregruzka).

This was shortly followed by the Obamas thoroughly stepping in it during a visit from British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife. It started when Obama refused to attend the joint press conference once the minister’s plane touched down. You simply do not treat your closest ally this way.
For his part, PM Brown gave two symbolic gifts and one that expressed national pride. Brown came bearing a pen holder carved from the timbers of the sister ship of that which gave the wood to create the famous “Resolute Desk,” the desk that has been in America’s charge since 1880. He also gave Obama the framed commission for that famous ship, the HMS Resolute. His third gift was a seven-volume biography of one of England’s greatest leaders, Winston Churchill.
So, what did President Obama give in return? 25 movies on DVD. Yeah, that’s it. Brown gives a symbolic gift like the pen holder fashioned from a famous British warship and Obama responds by sending a staffer to Wal-Mart to pick up a few quick movies. To top it off, they were too clueless to figure out that the Region 1 NTSC DVDs sold in America will not play on the Region 2 PAL system players in the UK.

A few days later, the President sent a letter to Jacques Chirac in France saying that he wants to “work with him” over the next four years. President Nicolas Sarkozy, who was elected to that office in May 2007 was not amused.

In April, the first family went to England to visit the Royal Family. Their idea of an appropriate gift? An iPod with an assortment of Broadway show tunes. This was quickly forgotten in the next day’s scandal when the Queen herself was touched by the First Lady. George W. Bush was once excoriated for having winked at her.

After determining he had sufficiently established himself in Washington, the President went on an “Apology Tour”, making sure at each stop that they knew that the U.S. was very bad, but we will try to do better. An embarrassing array of bows ensues.

In early October, the President and First Lady tossed aside concerns for Global Warming, taking separate jets to Copenhagen to make a pitch for Chicago as a host city for the 2016 Olympics. While it was very clear that the people of Chicago did not want the event and were very vocal in their opposition, much of the property that would be used for the Olympic site was owned by Obama cronies, so off he went.

Obama returned to Copenhagen in December to attend the UN conference on Global Warming. Obama claims a deal has been made, but it is non-binding, and really means nothing, having been deflated by the revelation of a series of emails from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich, in which key scientists in the Global Warming community were shown to have tampered with data and suppressed opposition. Since the closing of the conference, GW has completely fallen off the radar. If this means Al Gore will finally shut up, I will have to give Obama some bonus points (right place, right time kind of thing).

Conclusion

I won’t belabor the point further, as I think this has been more than sufficient to demonstrate the kind of presidency that has come of the 2008 election. As the fifth-youngest, and least-experienced man ever to hold the highest office in this great nation, Barack Hussein Obama has surpassed even my worst fears of what could happen as a result of his election.

Corruption runs rampant in Congress with votes being bought and sold without apology. Senators and Representatives show open disdain for their constituency. People with the temerity to voice opposition to the actions of this administration are reviled in the press and as I said earlier, regarded as terrorists by the administration. I have maintained for more than 10 years the only way to deal with these politicians is to vote all of them out, both Republicans and Democrats. If we cannot fix the government we have, it may be time to create a new one, as our original Declaration of Independence said.

As for Obama’s grade? Well if he were an executive with a private company, he would have been fired long ago, perhaps even prosecuted for causing so much damage to, and acting in such bad faith towards the company. My own opinion is that he could and probably would be impeached (if not found guilty of treason) if an opposition party were in power. We haven’t even talked about his close ties to corrupt and scandal-ridden organizations such as ACORN, SEIU, or others that would bring down regard for him even further. As it is, he has been handed the lowest approval ratings (47% and falling) on record this far into his presidency. The only President I can think of that has accomplished less is William Henry Harrison. He can be forgiven though, having died after only 32 days in office. In the meantime, I will agree with the American people and give him a good solid F.

by the PRESIDENT
of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey His will — to be grateful for His benefits — and humbly to implore His protection and favor : And whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY of PUBLIC THANKSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness :”

NOW, THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be : That we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war ; — for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed ; — for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of Government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted ; — for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge ;— and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions ; — to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually ; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have show kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

George Washington

Happy Halloween! This is the time of year for all things scary, and I have found what I believe to be the Scariest Site on the Internet. No, it isn’t scary in the traditional sense — no monsters, no scenes of gore, no Dracula, Wolfman, or Mummy. To me the scariest movies have always been the ones that are based in reality or have a possibility of actually happening, and this site has true horrors on display.

The source of my fears? If you have the stomach for it, take a good long look at the U.S. Debt Clock and study the numbers, especially down at the bottom. Before congress passes even one more penny’s worth of legislation (let alone planning a massive takeover of the healthcare system), we already have a problem of truly catastrophic proportions. I have always enjoyed disaster epics, mainly because I know they could never happen (I particularly enjoy ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ because of the insane ‘climate change’ supposition). Unfortunately this disaster is all too real, and it is now upon us.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware of the war the White House declared on FOX News recently. OK, even the Taliban is aware of the battle. This is just the latest distraction served up by the new adminstration in an ongoing attempt to prevent the American people from realizing that not only has The Chosen One not accomplished anything, but many (if not most) of the promises he campaigned on last year are now provable lies. The only offense that Fox News has committed (and let’s be honest here — they’re really after Glenn Beck, not the entire network) is to put them on display for all to see.

During the campaign, Obama promised to “close the revolving door” between K Street and government via “the most sweeping ethics reform in history.” On his first day of work, he signed an executive order prohibiting lobbyists from holding high-ranking administration jobs in order to fulfill that campaign promise. Just two days later, he granted a “waiver” from his own executive order to install Raytheon lobbyist William Lynn as the number 2 man in the Pentagon. This was not a great and terrible crime in itself, but it would foreshadow the parade of deception that was marching down the street. Unfortunately, with all of the fanfare and noise from Obama’s cheerleaders marching with him, it was easy to miss a lot of the details even though they were right in front of us to see.

Now in office, Obama (advised by Chicago crony Valerie Jarrett) proceeded to assemble the most radically leftist group of appointees in U.S. history, many of them self-avowed communists and marxists.

I won’t recount a list of his many offenses, as there are now a growing list of websites devoted to the topic. What is interesting to me is the most recent round in the battle between the White House and Fox News, and what makes it even more notable is that it happened on CNN.

A couple of nights ago, Campbell Brown interviewed Valerie Jarrett about the White House’s position on Fox News. It is amazing to hear her claim unequivocally that Fox is biased, then she immediately backpedaled to say they are evaluating on a case-by-case basis, which is clearly untrue. It is after this that the mask comes off for just a moment and you see the real mentality of the Obama administration; he is still just a Chicago organizer at heart. The key moment comes at about 1:15 into the interview.

They’re going to speak truth to power?!? They ARE the power! This is the language of protesters and community organizers. I think we are now seeing them moving into a complete seige mentality, the likes of which have not been seen since the days of Watergate.

The problem is, this is worse. Much worse. While Nixon attempted to stonewall, Obama has gone on the attack, which would be bad enough, but he is arguably violating the first amendment by attempting to muzzle the press, abridging their free speech rights.

In the same way he has overtaken Jimmy Carter as arguably the worst President ever (in relation to the job he is doing), he is now staking his claim as the smallest President ever. No, I’m not saying James Madison (5’4″, 100 lbs.) has anything to worry about. I’m talking about smallness of character.

While the Office of the President should be honored by all citizens, the man currently occupying that office is not worthy of it. Barack Hussein Obama (Mmm! Mmm! Mmm!) is by any measure the most petty, the most partisan, the least ethical, and the most corrupt man ever to hold the office of President of the United States. It is little wonder that he cannot stand up to the scrutiny.
