In a strongly worded message to Congress outlining priorities for a military spending bill, President Obama today disapproved of including money for pensions for 26 elderly members of the World War II-era Alaska Territorial Guard. These guardsmen are among those that were assigned to protect Alaska from the Japanese during WWII.
These courageous volunteers who took up the duty of defending our country years before they would enjoy the benefits of statehood themselves are now cast aside as a cost-cutting measure, while congress continues to argue over a trillion-dollar so-called ‘health care reform’ bill. Can anyone in their right mind still honestly say there will not be health care rationing if Obamacare passes? The excuse is being made that this would set a precedent of of treating service as a state employee as federal service. What?!?
Perhaps someone can explain to the President that Alaska was not one of his ’57 states’ at that time. And while you’re at it, remind him that this was organized as an Army unit, not a state militia.
This is neither Obama’s first nor most egregious affront to our men in uniform in recent days.
